Bruce Willis is captain underpants in this clip from Once Upon a Time in Venice

Once Upon a Time in Venice’s title is an amusing riff on the mythic Sergio Leone epics about violence and morality — though this movie (in theaters June 16) is an action comedy from the writers of Cop Out. And the Venice of this title is the part of Los Angeles, rather than Italy, where private detective Steve Ford (Bruce Willis) solves local mysteries. One of those, as he mentions in this exclusive clip to his assistant John (Thomas Middleditch, the Emmy-nominated star of Silicon Valley), concerns “Whoever is painting these murals on Luna June’s walls.”

Oh, the problems faced by SoCal Venetians.

The plot of Once Upon a Time in Venice kicks into motion when Steve’s dog is stolen, forcing him to bargain with a gang leader (Jason Momoa) to get the pooch back. In this scene, Steve schools John on the importance of wearing multiple pairs of underpants while on the job. (Coincidentally, Middleditch voices one of the main characters in Captain Underpants, currently in theaters.)

The movie costars John Goodman, Famke Janssen, Adam Goldberg, Elisabeth Rohm, and Kal Penn. Check out the clip featuring Willis and Middleditch, above.
