Rings trailer: Samara is out for blood in new clip

Fourteen years and an immeasurable body count later, people are still answering the phone when Samara calls, as evidenced by the new trailer for the upcoming sequel Rings.

The third film in the Ring franchise sees Samara’s haunting tools evolve from mere VHS tapes to viral email messages, as the series continues nearly 11 years after The Ring Two‘s release in 2005.

This time around, a young woman, Julia (Matilda Anna Ingrid Lutz), grows increasingly anxious as her boyfriend explores a dark subculture surrounding a disturbing videotape that supposedly kills viewers seven days after they view it. Opening an email attachment she really shouldn’t have, Julia ultimately sacrifices herself to save her beau, though, over the course of her last week on Earth, she discovers another mysterious “movie within the movie” no one else has ever seen before.

Judging by the trailer, terror ensues, including scenes of a young woman frantically backing away from one of the series’ signature, leaky TV sets, a disgusting string of thick, black hair harvested from Julia’s throat, and the worst mid-flight cocktail (hint: it’s Samara’s well water) you’ve ever seen.

The Big Bang Theory‘s Johnny Galecki, American Horror Story‘s Lizzie Brocheré, and Friday Night Lights star Aimee Teegarden round out the film’s supporting cast. The film was written by Jacob Aaron Estes (Mean Creek), Akiva Goldsman (I Am Legend, A Beautiful Mind), and David Loucka (House at the End of the Street), and directed by F. Javier Gutiérrez (Before the Fall).

Rings opens in theaters on Oct. 28. Check out the film’s first trailer in the video, above, and check out the new teaser poster, below.
