During Monday’s Television Critics Association Press Tour, Hulu’s senior vice president of originals, Craig Erwich, announced that The Devil in the White City is coming to Hulu as a television series with Paramount TV. Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese, who’d previously been attached to the project and had been developing it as a film, are set to produce the series. For years, people have been trying to find a way to adapt Erik Larson’s 2003 book The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic and the Madness at the Fair that Changed America, which tells the story of Dr. H. H. Holmes, a serial killer and the man behind the “Murder Castle” at the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair. Tom Cruise first acquired the rights to the book in 2003, at which time DiCaprio said he was developing his own version of Holmes’ case. When DiCaprio and Scorsese were developing it as a film, DiCaprio was set to play Holmes, though it’s yet to be clear if he’ll star in the series or simply produce.
