Taylor Swift’s sixth studio album reputation has hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 charts, her fifth album to do so. Selling 1.216 million albums in its first week of release, according to Nielsen Music, the album was just shy of the 1.29 million units racked up by her previous album, 2014’s 1989. All of Swift’s albums following her 2006 self-titled debut have hit the top spot, and according to Billboard, the chart-topping milestone also comes as reputation marked 2017’s biggest week for album sales this year, as well as it being the biggest sales week for albums since 2015’s Adele record, 25. Reputation is already the best-selling album of 2017, a little over one week since its Nov. 10 release, beating out Ed Sheeran’s previous 2017 record holder, ÷ (Divide). It also earned Swift her fourth million-selling album week, a record for an artist since Nielsen music began tracking sales in 1991. In the run up to the release of the album, Swift broke more records and made headlines with the spate of singles she put out, including the much-talked-about “Look What You Made Me Do.” No doubt reputation will continue to break records and bring in big revenue for Swift with her recently announced stadium tour, merchandise, and more.
