Presidential Debate viewers guide: What to know

It may seem as though Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump have been battling it out forever, but as Nov. 8 creeps closer and closer, the two candidates will face off on-stage for the first time. Don’t be the only one in the office who doesn’t know what’s going on — get informed with our handy-dandy guide below.

So, when and where is the debate happening?

The first debate will take place Monday, Sept. 26 at 9 p.m. ET. They’ll meet at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y.

Who’s moderating the debate?

Matt Lauer and Jimmy Fallon! Just kidding. The debate will be moderated by Lester Holt, the anchor of the weekday edition of NBC Nightly News and Dateline NBC.

Where can I watch it?

You can watch the debate pretty much anywhere — ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, and cable news channels like CNN, Fox News, C-SPAN. Thanks to a partnership between ABC and Facebook, you can also stream it on Facebook Live.

How long will it last, and what are they debating?

The debate will last for 90 minutes (until 10:30 p.m. ET). It’ll be divided into six 15-minute segments on three set topics, which were selected by moderator Lester Holt. Those three topics are “America’s direction,” “Achieving prosperity,” and “Securing America.”

Will there be more?

This will be the first of three. The others will take place Sunday, Oct. 9 at Washington University in St. Louis (to be moderated by ABC’s Martha Raddatz and CNN’s Anderson Cooper) and Wednesday, Oct. 19 at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (Fox News’ Chris Wallace will moderate that one).

Will I get to see the vice presidential candidates duke it out, too?

Yep. Clinton’s running mate, Tim Kaine, and Trump’s pick, Mike Pence, will face off on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at Longwood University in Farmville, Va. Their debate will be moderated by CBS News correspondent Elaine Quijano.
