Hulu releases Catch-22 trailer starring Kyle Chandler, George Clooney

For many people, Catch-22 is one of the books they had to read in high school. George Clooney was one of those people. And now, he is producing, directing, and starring in Hulu’s upcoming Catch-22 miniseries.

Joseph Heller’s 1961 novel takes a look into the machinery of war and the absurdity of it, by telling the story of Yossarian (Christopher Abbott), a bombardier in World War II, and his commanding officer, the crazy Colonel Cathcart (Kyle Chandler). When asked about the relevance of Catch-22 and specifically war in 2019 during the Television Critics Association press tour on Monday, Clooney said, “All of us spend our days and nights thinking and worrying about those situations. This story is reflecting on the insanity of it.” That being said, Clooney added, “There was a clarity in World War II that has been lacking in some of the other exchanges we’ve had over the years.”

But when it came to portraying a military man — Clooney plays Lieutenant Scheisskopf — Clooney said he felt a “great sense of pride, great sense of responsibility” when he put on the uniform. He then jokingly added, “As an actor in general — with the exception of the Batsuit — any time you put on a costume, it does help you get into character.”

Additionally, Hulu released the first trailer for the miniseries, which will premiere on on May 17. Watch it above.
