First Spider-Man: Homecoming reactions are wild about Tom Holland

Marvel and Sony's latest webslinger gets an A+

Marvelites went cuckoo for Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man debut in Captain America: Civil War, but that was just a taste of what’s to come when he headlines his own movie, Spider-Man: Homecoming. The first reactions from critics are out after an early screening and, in short, word is he’s everything we’ve wanted and more.

“Tom Holland is perfect,” EW’s own Devan Coggan tweeted Friday night. “He’s having the time of his life, and it shows.” EW’s Christopher Rosen echoed that sentiment with a glowing “Delightttttttful,” while others called the film at large “pure joy,” “a Spidey movie for everyone,” and “flawless.”

One even called it “the best Spider-Man movie, period,” which is really something when you consider the history of the wall-crawler on the big screen. Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 still stand as two of the most lauded superhero movies of this golden age of comic book adaptations, but fans and critics did not largely take to the finale of this trilogy, nor Marc Webb’s two Amazing Spider-Man movies.

Though, we’ll always have those dancing emo Toby Maguire GIFs.

Another standout of Homecoming seems to be Michael Keaton’s Vulture, who was called “the best MCU movie villain since Loki.” The film, directed by Jon Watts (Cop Car), also features Robert Downey Jr., Jon Favreau, Marisa Tomei, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Donald Glover, and Laura Harrier.

And, as Marvel fans know too well, be sure to stay till the very end for what’s been described as “the best after-credits scene yet.”
