See the trailer for role-playing mobile game Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery

The upcoming mobile game will allow players to create their own Hogwarts student

Websites like Pottermore have long allowed Harry Potter fans to test which Hogwarts House they’d land in or how they might interact with the wizarding school. Soon, however, those fans will finally have a chance to actually role-play as a Hogwarts student. Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, a new mobile game out later this year from studio Jam City, will allow players to create a personalized Hogwarts student avatar.

No need to wonder any longer whether you would’ve preferred Potions class or History of Magic; Hogwarts Mystery will allow players to attend classes, interact with Hogwarts professors, learn magic, and forge friendships (or Malfoy-style rivalries) with fellow students. In classic Harry Potter style, the game will feature larger plots and smaller stories based around relationships. The game will serve as something of a prequel to the proper Harry Potter series, set at Hogwarts when Harry’s was a small child and Nymphadora Tonks and Bill Weasley were students.

The title will officially launch on the App Store and Google Play later this spring, but will first be introduced at the A Celebration of Harry Potter event at Universal Studios in Orlando, lasting from Jan. 26-28. Attendees will get a first crack at playing the game, as well as access to two preview panels hosted by Jam City.
