SNL stings Republicans who won't stand up against Trump

In lieu of another Donald Trump sketch, Saturday Night Live put the entire Republican party on blast Saturday night for not standing up against the president.

“Republican Movie Trailer,” a digital short that aired immediately after the monologue, played with the notion that in a divided nation where the president has “unchecked powers” there should be “one Republican who decided enough is enough” and puts “country over party.”

But in the conceit of the sketch, he or she doesn’t exist — and the fake trailer replaced any reference to this person with a quickly read “TBD,” before also noting that the pretend movie is “definitely not about Paul Ryan.”

SNL branched out in its attacks on the current leadership Saturday night: the show opened by skewering attorney general Jeff Sessions (played by Kate McKinnon) and also featured a spoof of Trump’s son, Donald Jr. and Eric, during Weekend Update.
