Bill Murray crashes White House press briefing to talk Cubs baseball

Die-hard Chicago Cubs fan Bill Murray crashed the White House press briefing on Friday to talk about the Cubs, who are currently ahead of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series, which will determine who faces the Cleveland Indians in the World Series.

“Mr. President, do you think the Cubs will win?” a reporter jokingly asks the famed actor.

“I feel very confident,” a very serious Murray replied. “[Dodgers ace] Clayton Kershaw is a great pitcher, but they got too many sticks. It’s the crowd, it’s the weather. You get a little bit of autumn in Chicago, you don’t get that in Los Angeles. Trees just die. In Illinois they flourish.”

Murray is a constant fixture at Wrigley Field, as he was born and raised in the Chicago suburbs. His long-suffering Cubs haven’t won a World Series since 1908, but were the best team in baseball this season. They’re currently one win away from advancing over the Dodgers to the World Series.

The Cubs have been plagued by several superstitions over the years, including the Curse of the Billy Goat, which Murray poked fun at by sporting an “I Ain’t Afraid of No Goat” t-shirt at a recent game, referencing both the curse and his blockbuster hit Ghostbusters.
