Zac Efron is Extremely Wicked as Ted Bundy in first photo

Joe Berlinger's thriller 'Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile' starts shooting Thursday

Zac Efron is ready to embrace his extremely wicked and shockingly evil side.

The star of The Greatest Showman and Baywatch shared the first image of himself as serial killer Ted Bundy for director Joe Berlinger’s new film, Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile.

“Meet Ted,” Efron wrote of the black-and-white behind-the-scenes photo on Twitter, while Berlinger confirmed filming will commence on the movie this Thursday.

Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile was penned by Michael Werwie from the perspective of Elizabeth Kloepfer, Bundy’s longtime girlfriend. Lily Collins (Okja) will portray Liz, who went years in denial of Ted’s crimes before she ultimately turned him in.

“Camera testing 1,2,3…” Collins wrote with more behind-the-scenes photos on Instagram.

John Malkovich will also feature as Judge Edward Cowart, who presided over Bundy’s highly televised murder trial in 1979 and sentenced him to death. Bundy was executed in 1989.

Werwie’s script landed on the Black List and earned the writer the Nicholls screenwriting award.

Since he helmed 2000’s the Blair Witch sequel Book of Shadows, Berlinger’s work has focused primarily on documentaries. He recently directed Sundance TV’s Cold Blooded: The Clutter Family Murders and Spike TV’s Gone: The Forgotten Women of Ohio.
