Hobo with a Shotgun director to make comic book adaptation 'New York City Outlaws'

It has been announced filmmaker Jason Eisener will direct New York City Outlaws. Based on the comic book of the same name by Robert Huszar and Ken Landgraf, the movie concerns a group of vigilantes who join forces to rescue NYC from total anarchy during a prolonged police strike.

New York City Outlaws is written by Bryan Connolly and Zack Carlson, host of Vice’s cult film show, Outsider. The movie is produced by Rhombus Media, whose credits include the just-released Ellen Page-starring Into the Forest and director Brandon Cronenberg’s 2012 film Antiviral. (Rhombus also announced this week that it will produce Cronenberg’s second film, Possessor, about a secretive organization that uses brain-implant technology to inhabit other people’s bodies, ultimately driving them to commit assassinations for high-paying clients.)

Eisener made a huge splash in the genre scene with his debut movie, 2011’s Hobo with a Shotgun, a homage to low budget ’80s action movies which starred Blade Runner actor Rutger Hauer in the titular role. He also directed a section of the 2013 horror anthology V/H/S/2 titled “Slumber Party Alien Abduction.”

Eisener is currently directing second unit on Death Note, the new Netflix film from director Adam Wingard (You’re Next, the upcoming Blair Witch).
