Parks and Recreation team tells NRA to 'f--- off' after using Leslie Knope GIF

The NRA tried to use Leslie Knope in a message of support to its spokesperson after a challenging CNN town hall meeting on Wednesday, and, well, Leslie wasn’t happy to play along.

Parks and Recreation co-creator Mike Schur and several stars of the beloved NBC comedy slammed the NRA on Twitter after the organization tweeted a GIF of Knope (played by Amy Poehler) saying “Thank you” to its spokesperson Dana Loesch, who was booed while saying that she supported the victims of last week’s mass shooting at a Parkland, Florida, high school that left 17 people dead.

Schur began the official protest last night by tweeting, “Hi, please take this down. I would prefer you not use a GIF from a show I worked on to promote your pro-slaughter agenda. Also, Amy isn’t on twitter, but she texted me a message: ‘Can you tweet the NRA for me and tell them I said f— off?'”

While some wondered what side of the gun control debate libertarian Ron Swanson would have wound up on, Nick Offerman chimed in with an answer, tweeting to the NRA and Loesch that “our good-hearted show and especially our Leslie Knope represent the opposite of your pro-slaughter agenda – take it down and also please eat s—.”

Minutes later, co-star Adam Scott also expressed his displeasure with the use of the Parks leader: “Hey @nra please stay the f— away from Leslie Knope.”

As of Thursday morning, the NRA hadn’t taken down its tweet to Loesch.
