This Is Us promotes two actors to series regulars for season 2

Jon Huertas and Alexandra Breckenridge will be full-time cast members when the NBC drama returns on Sept. 26

Miguel and Sophie are becoming full-time members of the Pearson family.

Jon Huertas and Alexandra Breckenridge have been promoted to series regulars in season 2 of This Is Us, EW has learned.

Huertas appeared in 11 episodes of the NBC family drama as Miguel, the best friend of Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and, as viewers learned at the end of the second episode, the current-day husband of Rebecca (Mandy Moore). How exactly that came to be is one of the questions the show hasn’t answered yet, making many fans suspicious of Miguel’s motives. (Although maybe you shouldn’t be if you listen to series creator Dan Fogelman. “I think the best of Miguel,” he told EW last season, “and I like to believe that Miguel’s infatuation on a different level with Rebecca began long after Jack was no longer in the picture.”)

Breckenridge, who guest-starred in five episodes, was introduced in the back half of season 1 as the New York-based ex-wife of Kevin (Justin Hartley), with whom he is now reconnecting romantically. At the end of the season finale, Kevin reluctantly jets to Los Angeles to film a movie, leaving questions about where their rekindled relationship is headed, but now it appears that there is much more story to tell with Sophie.
