ABC’s The View is showing solidarity with those participating in the grassroots protest A Day Without Immigrants, during which restaurants and similar businesses closed down in response to President Donald Trump’s controversial immigration policies.

“This is The View with no immigrants,” the talk show’s official Twitter account posted on Thursday along with a video of a deserted audience and studio.

“Since every one of us and probably everyone in the audience is either an immigrant or the child of immigrants, we wanted to show you what this particular show would look like without any immigrants on it, and that’s what we did,” Whoopi Goldberg said on air.

“We were talking about immigrants, you know, who isn’t an immigrant?” she continued. “And if we’re really going to start pointing at immigrants, then we have to point, really, to Washington, because all of those senators and the guy who’s president is the child of immigrants.”

Goldberg then addressed a conversation from Wednesday’s episode of The View about a Mexican owner of an Italian restaurant in Texas who received a racist remark on a receipt from a customer.

“We say to immigrants, ‘Come over and do it right. Come over and get your papers and get your — do it right and we’ll support you.’ Well, if this is what that looks like, I understand why people don’t do what you tell them to do,” Goldberg said, “because if you don’t support your local restaurants because you think somebody Mexican owns it, I don’t understand that.”

Goldberg made headlines earlier this week when she came to the defense of Trump’s youngest daughter, Tiffany, after she was shunned at a New York Fashion Week show.

“You know what, Tiffany, I’m supposed to go to a couple more shows. I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I’m coming to sit with you,” Goldberg said on Wednesday. “Because nobody’s talking politics. You’re looking at fashion! She doesn’t want to talk about her dad! She’s looking at the fashion!”
