Wonder Woman is the highest-grossing live-action film directed by a woman

Wonder Woman‘s star continues to shine brightly: It’s now the highest-grossing live-action film directed by a woman worldwide.

Directed by Patty Jenkins, who previously won an Oscar for 2003’s Monster, the DC Extended Universe film has so far earned an estimated $652.9 million worldwide, surpassing Phyllida Lloyd’s Mamma Mia! ($609.8 million).

The film is also beating some of its fellow superhero cohorts. With an estimated domestic haul of $318.4 million in what is now the DCEU movie’s fourth weekend at the box office, Wonder Woman has officially earned more than Man of Steel did during its entire run ($291 million) and tied Marvel’s Iron Man ($318.4 million), which kicked off the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s also on track to out-earn both Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice ($330 million) and Suicide Squad ($325 million). Wonder Woman has already beaten Iron Man‘s worldwide earnings ($585 million) and doesn’t seem to be slowing down.

Once news of the film’s achievement broke, many people congratulated Jenkins on social media, including actress Connie Nielsen, who starred in the film as Queen Hippolyta, Diana’s Amazonian mother.

“Am so unbelievably proud of you,” the Good Wife actress tweeted at Jenkins.

Jenkins then responded, “Thank you my dear friend and incredible queen. Couldn’t have done it without you. Honored to be a part of it. xo”

For her part, actress Gal Gadot, who plays the iconic superhero herself, tweeted a looped video of Wonder Woman leaping over a barbed wire fence.

Since the movie’s premiere, Wonder Woman has served as a huge influence and inspiration to fans. It’s also prompted a discussion of the gender pay gap in Hollywood and sparked calls for a sequel directed by Jenkins.

Wonder Woman is currently in theaters.
