Larry David is constantly getting in jams, pickles, arguments, and fights on Curb Your Enthusiasm, and the new season will take him into the court of Judge Judy Sheindlin.

A season 9 trailer for David’s beloved awkward HBO comedy featured a scene that finds Larry suing a woman named Rose Shapiro for trespassing into his home and stealing his ficus plant. As David explained to reporters during an HBO TCA panel, “Judge Judy is in my ex-wife’s family, so I knew her.”

Season 9 guest stars also include Elizabeth Banks, Bryan Cranston, Jimmy Kimmel, Nick Offerman, Ed Begley Jr., Elizabeth Perkins, Carrie Brownstein, and Nasim Pedrad.

The conversation during the panel turned to another show, PBS’ Finding Your Roots, which this season will feature David discovering he is a distant relative (“maybe a third cousin”) of Bernie Sanders, whom he played on Saturday Night Live. David was reluctant to discuss that spoiler at first, but then said of the revelation: “I was very happy about that,” he said. “I thought there must have been some connection… I love Bernie.”

David also recalled how he wound up with SNL gig as a Sanders impersonator. WME head Ari Emanuel called him after the first debate between Sanders and Clinton, and he demonstrated his Sanders impression. Emanuel told him to put a video of it on the Internet, which he declined (“That’s not me,” he said.) Emanuel hung up, and called him back with SNL overlord Lorne Michaels “ten minutes later.”

Very few details of Curb‘s upcoming season were revealed during the panel, but showrunner Jeff Schaffer promised, “we’re sitting on the Fort Knox of Awkward.” Meanwhile, Curb star Jeff Garlin quipped: “It really follows thematically Pirates of the Caribbean. It’s more like the last one than the first.”

Curb returns Oct. 1 after a six-year hiatus.
