Trump hasn’t been very successful in achieving his policy goals so far, but as J.K. Rowling joked on Twitter, the president does seem to have created some kind of union in the Middle East — if only inadvertently. After white supremacists marched on Charlottesville, Virgina, last weekend for a series of violent rallies that left one woman dead and several other people injured, the world was shocked to hear President Trump equivocate in his remarks about the incident. “What about the ‘alt-left’ that came charging them? Excuse me. What about the alt-left that came charging at the — as you say, the alt-right? Do they have any semblance of guilt? … Let me ask you this. What about the fact they came charging — that they came charging with clubs in their hands, swinging clubs? Do they have any problem? I think they do,” Trump said. The comments not only received condemnations from Trump’s fellow Republicans like Mitt Romney, but even from Middle East leaders. Both Ayatollah Khamenei of Iran and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel blasted Trump’s remarks while explicitly drawing attention to the racist nature of the Charlottesville protestors. When that dual condemnation made a CNN chyron, Rowling — a and frequent Trump critic — tweeted it, writing, “Unbelievable. He really did bring the Middle East together.” Check out her tweet below.
