The Netflix superhero drama stars Mike Coulter as the title character, a former convict who now fights crime with the help of superhuman abilities he acquired after an experiment gone wrong. Mahershala Ali — who’s currently receiving awards season buzz for his critically acclaimed performance in Moonlight — also stars, along with Alfre Woodard, Rosario Dawson, and Theo Rossi. Coulter will reprise the role of Luke Cage in the upcoming The Defenders, a crossover series from Marvel that will feature Cage, Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Daredevil (Charlie Cox), and Iron Fist (Finn Jones). It’s set to be released in 2017. The first season of Luke Cage debuted on Netflix this past September. Its second season doesn’t have a premiere date yet, though the Twitter tease says it’s “coming soon.”
