Migos respond to Donald Glover's Golden Globes shoutout

UPDATE: On Monday, Migos issued a lengthier statement about Donald Glover’s Golden Globes shoutout, further thanking the Atlanta creator and star for highlighting their work at Sunday’s ceremony when the FX show picked up the award for best TV series, musical or comedy. It was an honor to have been on ATLANTA as guests and to have our friend Donald Glover thank us in his Golden Globes acceptance speech is real recognizing real. We put our city on our backs and we want to thank him and the whole world for making “Bad and Boujee” as successful as it is. C U L T U R E album coming 1/27.

EARLIER: After Atlanta won the Golden Globe for best TV series, musical or comedy, show creator and star Donald Glover shouted out “all the black folks in Atlanta just for being alive and being amazing” and the ATL-based hip-hop group Migos.

“I really want to thank the Migos,” Glover said, “not for being in the show but for making ‘Bad & Boujee,’ like, that’s the best song… ever… so yeah, thanks to everyone.”

Migos responded soon after, tweeting, “Thank you Donald Glover!” and cited the hashtag for their next album, Culture, coming out Jan. 27. It’ll be the follow-up to their 2015 debut, Yung Rich Nation, though they’ve released a handful of mixtapes since then.

Produced by Metro Boomin and featuring Lil Uzi Vert, “Bad & Boujee” took over the internet late last year when its opening lines — “Rain drop, drop top” — became a popular meme and was spoofed by everyone from the music blog Pigeons and Planes to Jimmy John’s sandwich chain.
