Watch Martin Luther King Jr. convince Nichelle Nichols not to quit Star Trek on Drunk History

Some stories are just so unbelievable they require liquor to tell them. That’s the case with the incredible story of Martin Luther King Jr. convincing Nichelle Nichols not to quit Star Trek.

During Tuesday’s Drunk History episode “Game Changers,” comedian and Full Frontal writer Ashley Nicole Black drunkenly shares the true account of Nichols preparing to leave her role as Uhura on the 1960s sci-fi series, only to be talked out of it by the legendary civil rights leader. Raven-Symoné and Jaleel White play Nichols and King in the segment, which EW is exclusively premiering above.

“When I learned all that Nichelle has done, it was impossible for me not to share it on Drunk History,” creator Derek Waters tells EW. “She is a true Game Changer. I’m so excited for people to learn about what she’s accomplished and honored to tell it.”

Set to air Tuesday night, the episode also touches on Nichols being a part of television’s first interracial kiss with William Shatner (played by Waters) and her work in recruiting for NASA.

To ensure the accuracy of the events, Waters and Comedy Central went right to the source, showing the episode to Nichols. “Well, I don’t know what to think,” the 85-year-old says with a laugh to EW. “But it was really funny and pretty good as a comedy version of what really happened.”

While Nichols herself doesn’t appear on Drunk History, she will return to space and the big screen in the upcoming sci-fi spoof Unbelievable!!!!! The film, which Nichols stars in and co-produces, features more than 40 Star Trek alums, as well as Michael Madsen and Snoop Dogg. So what was it like doing high comedy with the rapper/talk show host/Pitch Perfect 2 star? “Snoop Dogg is Snoop Dogg, so what can you say?” cracked Nichols.
