Director Adam Wingard and screenwriter Simon Barrett, the duo behind The Guest and You’re Next, put their mark on Blair Witch. The film was initially known as The Woods, but during a screening at San Diego Comic-Con last month it was revealed to actually be a secret sequel to The Blair Witch Project. Blair Witch tells of college students heading into Maryland’s Black Hills Forest when, as the trailer above shows, they realize too late that the legend of this dark entity is all too real. Wingard added, “The funny thing is, I’ve always been considered a horror filmmaker and I don’t feel like I’ve made a real horror movie…One of the interesting things for me was, actually saying, ‘I’m going to try to make the scariest film that’s ever been made.'” Blair Witch is scheduled to arrive in theaters on Sep. 16.
