God of War trailer comes crashing in with a release date

Kratos and Kratos Jr. are coming this April

One of our most highly anticipated games of 2018 finally has an official release date. With the new God of War trailer comes a look at this expansive, world-building story, along with the announcement that the next chapter in the Kratos saga will drop in a few months on April 20.

Kratos enters a new realm with his son, Atreus. The previous games in the PlayStation-bound series have focused on the world of ancient Greek mythology, but God of War brings the Spartan brute into the land of Norse myth.

It’s not just Kratos’ story, but one that involves Atreus, who’s determined to win his father’s respect. As he and Kratos venture to fulfill his mother’s last wish to have her ashes spread across the highest peak in the realms, Atreus will be faced with his father’s past as a god-killer and the dueling forces brewing within him.

“We are not men. We are more than that,” Kratos says. “The responsibility is far greater.”

The trailer also previews the franchise’s new game experience, which now features more of a behind-the-shoulder camera angle and more intimate storytelling. There’s a new pantheon of gods and monsters, new vistas, and more mayhem. Atreus clearly has a lot to learn.

“Can you kill something that big?” he asks. Psht. Of course Kratos can kill something that big.

God of War is available to pre-order here.
