NBC has ordered an additional five episodes of This Is Us, the critically admired family dramedy starring Mandy Moore and Milo Ventimiglia as the parents of three children with the same birthday, the network announced today. That brings the full season order to 18 episodes. The news is hardly surprisingly, though the pick-up comes after only one episode; the show opened impressively, with its series premiere earning a 4.2 rating among 18-to-49-year-olds (making it the top-rated drama in that demo) and 13.5 million viewers when factoring in three days of DVR viewing. Created by Dan Fogelman (Crazy, Stupid, Love), the series also stars Justin Hartley, Chrissy Metz, and Sterling K. Brown as the trio of siblings.
